Zion’s Birthday – Indianapolis Zoo Trip

June brought the beginning of summer. And now that I have no more kids to school, all that means from here on out is that it’s hotter than the rest of the year. haha. No more school. Just doing the things that we always do.

Zion’s birthday is this month and because it was going to fall during BYC, we didn’t really have time to plan a party. There were graduations, bridal showers and all kinds of other get togethers this month, making it really hard to find a free day. So instead of a party, Trevor and I went with Zion and Camille to the Indianapolis Zoo. It was his decision and it was a really fun day.

The Butterfly Garden was awesome. I could’ve stayed in here all day.

We got to walk along the path next to the kangaroos. If they came close enough we could pet them, but we weren’t allowed to get off of the path. Zion was able to reach one but I wasn’t. It was still really cool being that close to a kangaroo.

Not sure why this thing was in with the birds, but he was pretty cool looking.

Other animals…

We happened to get to the elephants at just the right time. We were the last ones in line to pet an elephant. So cool!!! It’s was much hairier than I expected, even though it’s skin was still pretty tough.

And the Dolphin Show. Zion had really wanted to pay extra to “pet a dolphin”. So Camille paid for that for his birthday present. But (to avoid a really long story), there was a mix up on the time we were supposed to be there, because of lack of communication from the zoo people, so when we got to the show they told us we had missed our time slot. We could still see the show but not pet a dolphin. It was really frustrating and we talked to them for a bit to figure out what we could do. In the end, they ended up giving Zion and Camille 2 free zoo admission tickets as well as 2 free “pet a dolphin” tickets if they come back on a different day. So that’s what they ended up doing. They just picked a day when Camille would be visiting us for the weekend and then went to the zoo that day. They saw some of their favorite animals from the first trip and then got to see that dolphins again. They had a great time and loved being able to touch the dolphin.

They also got to pet a stingray.

Camille and I did get to plan a little bit of a surprise too tho. Zion’s birthday fell on a Sunday this year, which was the second day of BYC. So without Zion knowing, I ordered a cake, got some balloons and planned on driving up to BYC Sunday afternoon to surprise him. Azariah gathered up some of his friends, Camille kept his distracted, and I set everything up in the cafeteria. He was very surprised. We totally pulled it off. It was great.

More on BYC in the next post….
