Sunday we went to church. That was very nice. Trevor was asked to preach and after church we went out to eat with quite a few of the church family. It was nice to enjoy the fellowship and catching up. The rest of Sunday was spent just hanging out with the family.
Monday – Wednesday was the yearly “Emond Family Camping Trip”. This was better then I expected. We arrived on Monday afternoon. It rained most of the day (as is known to happen on Emond camping trips) so we took our time getting there. Trevor was a sweetheart and rented a cabin for us to sleep in so we didn’t have to “tent” camp. I was very greatful. Im not a huge fan of tent camping. The nice parts about the cabin we were staying in was #1 – it had A/C. #2 – it had 2 twin beds and a double bed. #3 – it was right next to the campsites where the rest of the family was camping.
It was absolutly beautiful, as far as temprature goes. It was only in the upper 70’s most of the time but was a bit chilly in the mornings and evenings. It didn’t seem to bother the kids, tho. They still played in the water and built things from sand, the entire weekend. The sun came out off and on, so this made it a bit more challanging for those that wanted to ski and tube.
I was able to spend some time reading and just relaxing. That was wonderful. I don’t get to do that very often. Even tho I didn’t even get halfway thru the book I bought, it was still nice to bum out for a bit. I also spend a good long while talking to my step-mother-in-law and really getting to know her. She’s a super nice lady. We seem to hit it right off, as did Glorianna who had a grand ole time helping Gramma Sherry with the dishes.
On the afternoon of the second day camping, a crazy thought entered my head. I wanted to try skiing. Seriously. I have only tried this once. When I was like, 12 or so. I don’t really care for water sports. I don’t swim and I hate to be in water that is #1- cold and #2 – I can’t see the bottom of. No telling what kinds of stuff is down there!!
So anyway…I mistakenly mentioned this thought to Trevor, who, after getting over the shock of it and wondering just exactly what had happened to his wife, decides to help me fullfill this thought. So off I go to prepare for my ski lesson. WOW!! I must say I can totally understand why people like doing this. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I never actully got up on the skiis, but I did try 3 times and almost made it. The skiis kept falling off of my feet. Next time I may have to try using “child skiis”. I also did some tubing. That was fun. But man were my arms sore the next day.
Gramma decided she wanted to do a little something for Zion, since his birthday is this month, and she never gets to help us celebrate any of our kids special days. So she bought a big birthday cookie and gave it to Zion that evening. It was loads of fun. The kids really enjoyed the “small party”. Gramma and Grampa gave Zion some money to spend on his bday present (as they usually do, only normally they mail it). All 3 kids also recieved some small toys from the rest of the family as well.
S’mores, Tubing, Skiing, Reading, Relaxing, Eating….I guess you could say it was a very fun Camping trip.
After leaving the camp site, we took a short detour on the way back and swung thru part of the “wild life loop” in Custer State Park. Prairie Dogs galore! Elk, Antelope, and lots of Buffalo. Just as we came across some buffalo, they decided to cross the street. So we just stopped the van, to enjoy the sight. Well, not only did they cross they street in front of us, but they also surrounded the van competely. That was kind of scary and cool all at the same time. So here we are, sitting in the van surrounded by lots and lots of buffalo. They took their sweet time crossing the road, and some of them even stopped to lick the van. Honestly. So we’ve had the bumpers and tires, on our van, licked by buffalo! How many people have that in their life! HA!!
