Vacation Day 12–Chicago, Part 2

After leaving the Museum of Science and Industry, fighting crazy Chicago traffic, and taking a short stop at our hotel, we headed to “Medieval Times”. http://www.medievaltimes.com/chicago/abouttheshow.aspx

The building is a big castle. Inside looks like a castle as well. The “dinner/tournament” area is a huge arena surrounded by long tables and chairs. When we first arrive we are given a seat section number, a colored crown and instructions to cheer for the knight whose color we are wearing. We were to cheer for the “Green Knight”. We didn’t realize until about 10 minutes into the show, that the Green Knight is the “Bad guy”. HA HA. So we got to cheer for the bad guy. It’s not normal to cheer for the bad guy, but we had lots of fun. Off and on during the show, we are served “Medieval” time period type food. LOTS OF FOOD!! And no silverwear. HA HA. We had a very yummy tomato soup, which we had to drink from the bowl, garlic bread, a half of a chicken (this was huge!!), a very large baked potato fry, Ribs, and an apple pastry for dessert. Plus our drink. We ended up taking most of it back to the hotel with us. I was soo stuffed. Everyone recieved the same amount of food, even the kids. So we had lots of food.

There was jousting, sword fighting, other types of weapon fighting, Knight type games, horse dancing and other kinds of Medieval Knight entertainment which followed a story line. Whenever the knights would do a game, if our knight was one of the winners, he rode over to our section and threw flowers to the girls. Glorianna was standing up, waving her arms in the air, and recieved a flower, which the knight kissed before he threw it. She was smitten after that. For the rest of the show, she cheered for the knight and threw kisses to him. I couldn’t help but laugh and groan at the same time. She now believes she’s a real princess! She loved her flower to death….literly…if we left it at the hotel to go to another musuem, she missed it. She talked about it. She cuddled it until it died. So when we returned home, I pulled all of the petals off and put them in our “Gigantic Souvenir Mug” for her to look at when she missed her flower.

Speaking of Souvenirs, Trevor and I bought a 44 oz. Glass Goblet filled with Slushy. It was quite tasty. And now we have an awesome mug. Zion wanted a Green Flag so he could wave it to cheer for his knight. Azariah got a sword and Glorianna got a dagger. After the show was over, we got our picture taken with the Green Knight and had him sign the kids stuff.

It was quite the show. I’d go again, except for the price. Its very expensive. But it was definatly worth going. I don’t think the kids will be forgetting this trip for a long time.
