Every summer, I try to sign the kids up for the summer reading program at our local library. We always get some nice coupons and the kids get prizes and also get to put their names in a drawing for a big prize at the end of the program. The library always has a different “theme” they host with their program every summer. This years theme was “Dream Big”. For some reason, Star Wars seemed to be part of that theme. I don’t know how, but they managed to work it in anyway. This being said, one of the “Fun things” the library hosted this summer, was a Star Wars Party. The kids could come to the library dressed as a Star Wars character (if they wanted..not a must) and play games and win prizes, etc. Of course, my kids wanted to go. We don’t have any Star Wars costumes….only light sabers. So I called a couple of friends who have boys, who are also Star Wars fans, to see if they had some costumes we could borrow for the event. They did…well at least for the boys. But Glorianna was an easy fix. I just threw on one of the old “we use this for everything, Bible time period” robes I had made a while back, (we really have used these robes for everything) and put her hair in “honey buns”… TA DA! Princess Leah. that was easy.
So off to the party we went. The kids got to play interactive games on the wii, do some activites, have their pictures taken with “Clone Troopers”, “Obi-Wan”, “Anakin”, “A Sand Person”, and some other characters. (These were adults dressed up, from a company that does this kind of thing at different events and such).
Anyway… this party lasted about an hour and a half, but didn’t really seem that long. The kids kept pretty busy playing games and doing activities. Towards the end of the party, there was a costume contest. Any of the kids who had come in costume, got a number, and everyone else voted for their favorite. There were only 6 kids who participated in this part. There were 2 Darth Vaders, 2 Anakins, 1 Jedi, and 1 Princess Leah…..
Guess who won?
I think it’s pretty obvious…but go on…guess…
I knew when the kids all lined up, who was going to win.
Yup… Glorianna won. I think it was the honey buns that did it. Everyone who saw her just LOVED her hair. And the fact that she was the only girl. haha So she won a gift card to Books-A-Million.
All of the kids won different things tho. There were so many drawings, and chances to win stuff, that if you DIDN’T win, it was because you didn’t do anything. They all won key chains, coupons for a free sandwich at Big Boy, and pencils. Nothing big, but enough to make the kids happy. They very seldom win drawings.
Other things the library has hosted this summer has been, “How to Make Balloon Animals” Class, a Magic Show, A Planetarium (which we haven’t went to yet…it’s next week) an Animal Show where the kids could learn about different animals and even pet some of them… and a ton of other stuff. That’s just the ones we went to.
Its always a lot of fun, and the kids read like crazy so that they get to put their names in the drawing more often.
I forgot to take my camera to the events…but here’s a few I took at home, and with my phone. Enjoy!
