School – off schedule day 🙂

I normally consider myself a pretty schedule based homeschool mom. We all work best on a schedule. I’m also all about fun ways of learning, but most of it takes place in the school room. Today was an off day.

We had some bad storms pass through the area last night, which caused us to spend about 1 – 1.5 hrs in the school room. (Since its the best location in our house to run to, in case of a tornado). This also caused interrupted sleep. Nothing came of the storms in our area, but we all needed extra sleep, so we slept in a bit this morning. I also wanted to get some stuff done around the house. Normally chores get post poned till after school, but I just wasn’t feeling schooly today. So we took a 2 hour delay because of weather. Haha. Hey…if public school can, why can’t we?

Anyway… So I got caught up on a few things and then began school. Today is also one of those days that I’m going to be slacking on making the kids stay in the school room. As long as school gets done today, I don’t care where it gets done at.

The boys loved being able to do math, spread out in the living room.

Glorianna is doing Abeka videos, and sometimes she gets a little loud with the interaction. Today she didn’t get yelled at to be quiet because the boys were upstairs and she was down. It worked out quite nice.

I may just do this more often. Who knows…maybe come spring we’ll start having math class outside! 🙂

In other school news….

Yesterday during math class, Glorianna pauses her video and asks me, “how can my brain hold all of this stuff? I just keep cramming more and more into it.” Haha

We are at the beginning of our 3rd nine weeks. Moving along quite nicely. We have done report cards again this year and it really helps to see just exactly where the kids are in school.

Azariah is loving “Moving Beyond the Page”. I was a little concerned because of all the reading it involves but he is doing really well with it.

We are seriously considering doing less MBTP next year for Zion, and doing some Apologia instead. I really like the apologia stuff for science, and with him already in 6th grade, there’s a lot of stuff the apologia covers for the middle and upper grades that MBTP doesnt. I think Zion will do well with it.

Glorianna will more then likely stay with Abeka videos for one more year. I took Azariah off of them way to early and he suffered some. I don’t want to make that mistake with Glorianna.

Overall school is going well. We’ve still had some ups and downs, but the kids are getting better and working on their on. I’m doing a lot more helping the actual teaching. Self taught books with teacher assistance are just awesome.
