Pennsylvania Part Three — Philadelphia

On Monday Morning, we headed to Philadelphia, with Karl, Melissa and Faith, to see the history there.  (http://life-on-a-farm.blogspot.com/ – to see their blog of the events) The kids participated in the Jr. Ranger Program, while we were there, so it gave them something to do while we were walking around. It was a lot of fun. Not only did we see the history, but the Ranger program made the kids learn about and study history as well. The Liberty Bell was amazing. I was a little surprised it wasn’t behind glass, but at that same time, it was really nice to see it so close up. Independance hall was pretty cool. I love the look of the old buildings and the old furniture inside. Some of it was the original furniture and some of it was remakes of the old. The fact that there really is still a few originals around, amazes me.

We spent the entire day here. There was so much to see. It was really really windy, but it was still a lot of fun. Walking around with our good friends made the tour even more enjoyable.

We saw the Betsy Ross house. We didn’t actually tour it because the kids were getting tired, by this point, and it was more museum like, so we just but saw the outside of it, the giftshop area, and had my picture taken by Betsy Ross’ grave. Trevor says that maybe one day I’ll become a great seamstress and people will come to have their picture taken by my grave… Um…Yeah…right. Is he going to bury me in the front yard???

Trevor decided that he just HAD to try a real genuine Philly Cheese steak while we were in Philly. So on the way home, we stopped and grabbed one to go. It was ok. I didn’t think it was all that, like some people seem to think. (Melissa made home made Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches later that week, and her’s were much better.)

I’d go back to Philly again in a heartbeat. It is such an interesting place. And the major history that took place there just makes me stand in awe. To see how much the town has modernized around it, almost seems sad. Life just goes on and history becomes just that…history…
