It was another beautiful day on the island. It was windy but the sun was shining and it was in the lower 70’s. We had breakfast at the house and then headed for the Dalvay By the Sea Hotel. This was “The White Sands Hotel” in the AGG movie. Such a beautiful old hotel. You can actually stay here, but it’s a big expensive. So we just enjoyed walking around the foyer and enjoying the views from outside.

Next stop was to see the “Lake of Shining Waters”. It’s not the actual spot that LMM had in mind when she wrote the book. I’ll get to that later. But this was the spot where they filmed part of the movie. Or at least somewhere around this area. The exact spot is still up for debate. PEI isn’t all that interested in having movie marker signs all over the island, so you have to do some research to find the movie spots.

There are also a lot of beautiful dunes all over the island. Some of these were movie locations and some were not. But they are all very beautiful.

For lunch we went to the PEI Preserve Company. (This was recommended by a friend.) They have a restaurant as well as a store that sells all kinds of baked good and preserves.

I tried the Orange Mango Tea. It was so good.

I had the lobster croissant. Oh my.

Trevor had the Fish Cakes (I didn’t take a picture) and we both split the PEI Potato Pie. It had a bacon crust and a maple bacon glaze. Oh My Word!

After a very fulfilling lunch, we went to see the Post Office where LMM worked as a postmistress. She also spent a lot of time writing in the small attached house, when she wasn’t working. (If you click on the pictures with the writing, you can see it better…if you care to read more detail)

We also visited the site of her childhood home, which is no longer there. But they have a monument and a nice walking path around the actual house site that you can walk through. They also keep up the garden plot that was hers, as close to what she liked when she had it.

She often sat under this apple tree to write.

There was also another monument in the same area dedicated to this minister who knew the Montgomery Family and the family who founded the town of Cavendish. Trevor found out that one of the hymns that Bro Branham quotes in the Church Age Book, was written by this man. He found that very cool and had to take a picture.

Next we went to the LMM birthplace and childhood home. She was born in this house and spent part of her childhood here.

This is a replica of her wedding dress.

Next was the AGG Museum. This was another house that LMM visited and spent a lot of time in. It was owned by some of her relatives and is still in the family today. She was married in the livingroom of this home. This home was the inspiration for a lot of things in her book as well, including the Lake of Shining Waters, which she could see (or rather the pond that inspired it) from the upstairs window.

The railroad depot where Matthew picked up Anne, was inspired by a station that is no longer there. It is now a Pub. But some of the features on the outside have been preserved.

We were also told to try Cows Ice Cream – that it was the best ice cream ever. So of course, that is what we did. I must agree. It is very, very good. It’s not overly sweet and they had so many different flavors to choose from.

And our final stop before calling it a day, was the lighthouse from the movie. It was so cool to see this.

We then went back to our house, had some supper and took the rest of the day off. We packed a lot into one day so it was nice to just chill for a while. I should mention that this is no small island. It would take about 3.5 hours to drive from one end to the other. Our house was about an hour from most of the things we wanted to see and even further for other things. Everything is very spread out. There’s not just one spot that is for tourist. It’s just a little bit, here and there. But it was worth the driving around.
Part Three coming soon….
