I’ve learned to improve on some of the things I’ve already known how to make, making them healthier. And I’ve learned how to make some new food items that I use regularly. I’m loving this!! Its such a great feeling knowing you can make some of the more common items you usually get at the store. But can feel good about consuming them now.
Sourdough Waffles. The kids love these even better than regular waffles. So this has become a regular breakfast around here. I make them in bulk and freeze them.
Apple pie using sprouted grain flour and honey instead of sugar.
Taco Seasoning. I use this in just about any mexican dish. It’s awesome!
My favorite!! Coffee creamer. Now I can have any flavor I want and can change it up as often as I want. I usually make it once a week.
Sprouted grain bread. Its so yummy. Between this and the Sour Dough Bread (which I forgot to take a picture of) I hardly by store bought any more. Eventually I’ll start making this in bulk and freezing it. Then I wont have to worry about running out.
Guilt free pudding. Its so good you can even eat it for breakfast. =) Its made from Avocado, Cocoa Powder, Keifer, Honey and Chia Seeds. You can add other toppings to it afterwards if you want. Just mix them all together in a blender and chill in fridge. It really helps cure that sweet tooth. And with avocado being the main ingredient it so good for you. =) Zion is really the only other person besides myself, that likes it. The others think its weird. =)
I still come up with desserts that my kids DO like. This Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie is baked in an iron skillet and is actually more like a cake. But the kids love it. Its sweetened with honey and made with sprouted grain flour. The chocolate chip are not sugar free tho. I didn’t have any of those…so I did cheat just a tad. =)
Remember in my last post I was wishing I could figure out how to make Ice Cream to cure Trevor’s sweet tooth? Well I did!!! I’m so happy. I found this nifty gadget that fits onto my kitchen aid mixer and it works like a charm. I use honey or maple syrup for sweetener and I use keifer in all different flavors. It just depends on what flavor of ice cream I want.
Its actually more of a frozen yogurt than ice cream, but we all prefer that anyway. The kids love this. Its a great way to give them a special treat and not worry about how much junk is in it….because there isn’t any!! If it actually makes it to the freezer, it does freeze up nice and becomes a little more firm. Otherwise they just eat it like a soft server frozen yogurt.
We also started making our own Kombucha. So it’s become normal to see jars of the stuff sitting around “cooking”. Its a great conversation starter. haha
And onward we go!!
