Nashville Home School Convention

We normally always go to the Cincinnati Home School Convention. But this year Trevor just felt to go to the Nashville one. He was really tired of the same old thing from Cincinnati so we made plans for a weekend stay in Nashville. The Nashville Convention was held at the Opryland Hotel. It was a beautiful hotel but very expensive. Thankfully we had some friends in the area that kindly let us stay with them, saving us a ton of hotel fees.

Here are some pictures from our weekend.

Zion and his favorite author, Chuck Black

Trevor with the guys from Blimey Cow. I have no idea… Apparently they are homeschoolers who make funny videos on YouTube.

Azariah was very excited about getting to meet Alex Kendrick. He’s the guy who made the Christian movies, “Flywheel”, “Facing the Giants”, “Fireproof”, and “Courageous”.

I was highly impressed with him. He isn’t ashamed about what he believes and he truly gives the glory to God for his success in filmmaking. He had a very sweet spirit about him. I really enjoyed listening to his talk.

Zion didn’t get to meet Alex on day one because he was doing a workshop, so Zion got to meet him on day two.

YouthDigital is a company that teaches kids how to code using the game Mindcraft. The boys was quite impressed. The teacher of the class is very good with kids and does online classes.

Azariah took a free class on storytelling with Legos. That was a lot of fun.

The hotel had a really pretty entry area with awesome places for photo shoots. So we let the kids take some of Trevor and I.

This doesn’t really have anything to do with the convention other that the fact that I found it at a booth in the mall next door to where the convention was. But I’ve never seen a scarf like this and thought it was very cool.

Over all we had a good time. We left Glorianna with a friend but took the boys with us. This is the first time we’ve taken the kids to a convention but they did very well and had a good time. Zion participated in a teen program they had that taught “service”. They got to help watch little kids who were in the kids program and things like that. Zion was worn out after. He said he didn’t realize that watching that many 4-5 year old was so much work.

We let Azariah participate in the kids program but he didn’t stay long. He said it was boring. They were trying to make it fun but I think it was mostly glorified daycare. Haha. So he just hung out with us in the exhibit hall and sat through seminars with us. He took a lot of notes in his notebook and had a blast getting “autographs”.

Trevor seemed to get a lot more out of this convention than I did so it was a good thing we went. I was a bit disappointed in the size of the exhibit hall…it was a lot smaller than what I was used to, but it was still nice to look around. The people here seemed to be a lot more friendly and more helpful than the Cincinnati one, so we aren’t sure yet about where we will go next year.
