Trevor was off work for Memorial Day, so we planned a fun filled family day. We’ve been so crazy busy the last few months, it was nice to finally have a day off.
We started the day off by heading to Krispy Kreme. That was a special treat that we all enjoyed. Then we headed to Mammoth Cave. The tour was so cool. The kids have never been inside a cave before and they loved it. Glorianna was a little worried at first, decending the very skinny stairs, down, down, down into the cave, but once we finally reached the bottom, she was fine. We even got to experience what it was like in total darkness. That was really cool. The kids did very well during this experience. We took a few pictures, but most of them didn’t come out because our camera couldn’t figure out what to focus on, and why there wasn’t proper lighting. haha.
After leaving Mammoth Cave, we headed towards Lincoln’s Birthplace and Boyhood Home area. For the amount of time that we’ve lived in Indiana, we have never vistied this area. Why?? I have no idea. This was on the way back home from the cave, so it made for a pretty easy trip. We stopped at a picnic area for some much needed fuel, before entering the Park. The kids filled out their Jr Ranger Books at Mammoth Cave and Lincoln’s Birthplace, so they now have 2 more badges to add to their boards. We are loving the Jr Ranger Programs. The kids learn a lot about the areas we visit and are really happy to get the badges for completion. So this makes sight seeing more enjoyable for the kids as well.
After leaving that area, we headed back home. We ended the day with swimming, grilling out and ice cream. It was so nice to have the entire day to ourselves. It almost felt like a mini vacation. =)
How’d you all spend your Memorial Day??
