Now that the cabinets are finished, it’s time to move on to the countertop. We found a kit for this too, that was a lot cheaper than buying new countertop. (You’ll also notice the messed up walls in the background. This was because we went ahead and ripped off wallpaper while we were at it….that will be in the next post)
The original….old style cream. There was a few cracks here and there so we put some putty in those and let it dry overnight.
First layer of the transformation painting was to paint the whole countertop black.
Then I sponged painted a greyish white color all over the entire thing.
Next coat of sponge painting….its actually more creamy white but for some reason it looks tan in this picture.
Next step was the final sponge of the pure white all over. Then we added thin black “veins” to give it a marble like look.
After adding a couple coats of the protective finish I think it turned out great! Im very happy with the results.
I have to let it “cure” for about a week, which means my bigger heavier items are still sitting on my kitchen table but after two days I can put light weight items on it, start using my dishwasher again and use the countertop gently. So I can at least resume cooking and such right now.
Next up……the backsplash!!
