Just a boring post about organization

Now that my kids are getting older, I’m really trying to “neaten up” the house. Which means I’ve been doing a lot of online searching on things like “how to organize small spaces in your house”. I started with the kitchen. I have fallen in love with jars. I mean those big large canning jars. Or just cool, unique looking jars and bottles really. I have found that I can use them for storing things and they take up a lot less room on my small counter tops than those large pretty themed containers. Who says jars can’t be cute and decorative??

Most of these I had on hand, but I got a couple from a friend (Thanks Melissa!!) and some I have picked up at second hand stores and yardsales.

I also found a way to hang up my measuring cups for easy access since I use them all the time. It was better than digging through drawers or cupboards trying to find the right size.

I also cleaned out and organized cupboards and drawers. Good bye miscellaneous lids that don’t fit on anything!! How do I end up with so many?? I’ve still got a long ways to go, and I don’t want to spend a ton of money, so I’m really trying to do this as creatively as possible.

On to the school room….

It’s not really much different than my normal….I always rearrange and organize the schoolroom every year. It’s usually the only place that actually gets done. But I did find this awesome idea to keep track of art supplies. Plastic shoes holders are pretty cheap at the dollar store so this worked out great! Let’s hope it lasts all year.

I also decided to use jars to straighten up some of the piles of stuff in my sewing area. I think I need more shelves tho. It seems that I just never have enough shelves. But I make do. I’d love a nice sewing table with drawers and shelves built into it, but I haven’t found one cheap enough yet. And I’m too much of a cheapskate to buy one brand new.

Another cool idea I found …

scarves

Do I have too many scarves? But at least I can see them all now. And I really do wear them!

The next project???

I’d love to get the basement floor finished. We ripped up the carpet last year because it has flooded several times. I got tired of drying it out all the time, and the last time it flooded it really started to have a moldy smell. So we just ripped up the carpet. It’s been just concrete down there every since. I’m hoping to put down some foam mats. Something that is easy to clean and comfy to walk on. You know the type…those cool foamy puzzle like squares you see at daycares…or gyms…but not those ugly colors. Maybe something unique…and with a cool design. (smile)

And the entire house needs repainted. But one step at a time…
