Trevor and I had an opportunity to go to Italy this month. He was asked to perform a wedding ceremony for a friend of ours and so I decided to go with him. I’ve never been overseas before and I was nervous and excited all at the same time. We left on Saturday, September 17 from Louisville.
We flew to Chicago and then to Philadelphia.
From there we had a long 7 1/2 hour flight to Venice, Italy. There was some amazing views from the airplane.
Having to fly overnight, I was hoping to get some sleep, but unfortunately I only got around 2 hours. Sleep just didn’t want to visit me, or Trevor, so we were pretty tired when we arrived in Venice on Sunday morning, September 18. I had my first cup of Italian coffee in the Italian airport. It was terribly strong and I had to add water. But I got through it.
Since Venice is the land of no roads, we had to take a boat from the airport to our hotel. This was a new concept but it was kind of cool. It was a bit slow but we got to enjoy our first views of the beautiful area.
Once we got off of the boat, we had about a 10 minute walk to our hotel. We were too early to check in so we left our bags with the front desk lady who said she’d place our bags in our room. So off we went on our first exploration of the city and our first of many hours of walking. You have to walk to get anywhere in Venice. Our first stop was the Correr Museum. This was really cool.
The type of library Trevor would love to have.
After we left the Museum, we were able to check into our hotel, so we grabbed some pizza on the way there. After taking a much needed shower (24 hours in the same clothes start to feel kind of gross), we ate our pizza, took a nap and then headed out to do some more site-seeing.
Next stop…The Doge’s Palace. This place was amazing!!
By the time we left there we were pretty tired and decided to call it a night. The 6 hour time difference didn’t help any either.
Stay tuned for Part Two….
