Wednesday, September 21 – Our airb&b in Verona had a coffee maker in it. (Happy Dance) We could get up and drink our coffee at our own pace, read our Bibles together and take our time leaving for breakfast. Ahhhh…much better. There was something so satisfying about brewing my own cup of coffee.
We still had to go out in search of breakfast, but the slower pace of the morning was so enjoyable. We found a cute little breakfast shop where we got….you guessed it…more croissants. Don’t Italians have any protein for breakfast?? They did have some fresh pressed juice at this place though and you could actually sit at a table and enjoy your food before leaving. So that was very nice.
After breakfast we went to see the tower of Romeo and Juliet. Yes I know it’s a made up story, and Shakespeare never even visited Verona, but someone was smart and decided to create a museum with a balcony that you could tour and have your picture taken in. What a genius business idea!!
It was really pretty cool to see, though and imagine that it was a real life story. They have a life sized statue of Juliet near the balcony and inside the museum are costumes, a bed and some pictures from the plays that were done.
This is a plaque outside, next to the balcony.
Trevor wanted to recreate this scene and I said, “No Way!”…..You’re welcome.
Can you see me?? “Romeo, Romeo. Wherefore art thou, Romeo?”
View from the Balcony, with my Romeo.
Our next stop was The Arena. We got to see the outside of it yesterday, so today we wanted to go inside. We bought a day pass at the Romeo and Juliet museum that got us into all of the places we wanted to see, for one set price and we didn’t have to stand in line at any of those places. And after seeing the long line that we got to skip going into the Arena, that made it totally worth it. We were able to save money and avoid lines. SCORE!!
The Arena looks a lot like the Colosseum in Rome. This Arena was the first of its kind and the Colosseum was patterned after it.
We just had to do the “thumbs”. How can you sit in the arena and not do the thumbs?
This old well has an interesting but sad legend. A man of lower class loved a woman above his means. When she wouldn’t return his love, he told her that her heart was as cold as the water of this well. She asked him to jump into the well to prove just how cold it was. He did so and was not able to get out so he drowned. Realizing that this was the only man who truly did love her, she jumped into the well soon after and also drowned. Are all love stories about Verona so tragic??
We got to tour this really old and cool looking castle.
This is the story of Saint Martin and the beggar.
Walking along the top of the castle was pretty amazing.
We stopped by a restaurant that was known for their tortellini, and got a couple of variety boxes to go and took them back to our room for lunch. There were 8 different kinds and they were all really good. The only one I didn’t care for was the olive one. It was way too strong. But the rest were amazing. We took our time eating and rested up a bit because the rest of the day would be spend doing wedding stuff – the main reason for our trip. Bro. Isaac picked us up at 4 and we headed to the Venue for the rehearsal.
I saw these really cool trees while we were there. This one is an olive tree. I’ve never actually seen a real olive tree so this was exciting for me.
This tree had both lemons and limes on it. Reminded me of the story Bro Branham tells about Bro Sherrit’s trees.
Following the rehearsal, we all went to Spranza’s house for lasagna and fellowship. We were pretty tired by the time we got back to our room, but it was a fun day.
Part 5 coming soon….
