Homeschool Christmas Program

This year, Trevor and I co-hosted the homeschool Christmas program. Trevor had written a play a couple of years ago, that we never did get around to using for the homeschool group. So this year we were really hoping to make that happen. The only problem is that our homeschool group is huge. We have well over 100 kids. And about half of those kids are under 8. It’s really hard to do a play with that many little ones. So after voicing our idea during one of the meetings, a couple of the families of the younger kids offered to do something with the little ones if we wanted to do the play with the older kids. So that is what we decided to do. We took the kids 8 and up who wanted to participate in the play, and the other family took kids 8 and under (with a couple olders thrown in here and there).

So the practices began. Once a week during October and November and 2 times a week the first two weeks in December. Our program was scheduled for Dec. 13th and we had a lot to do. Not only were we doing a play (which the majority of the kids had never done before) but we were doing a musical play. By the time the program rolled around, we were all very tired but the kids did such a fantastic job that it was all worth it. The actual program consisted of our play, followed by the younger kids play and the YF choir. It was very well done. I think everyone had a good time as was blessed. I’m still hearing comments on how much fun everyone had during practices as well as the program.

The song we had for the play apparently got stuck in people’s heads and they are still going around singing them. =)

Because Trevor was directing from the front and I was directing from the back, neither of us actually got to “Watch” the play. So we are anxiously awaiting the DVD. I also wasn’t able to get any pictures because of the mentioned directing….but I was able to get a couple of the dress rehearsal. They aren’t very good but they will do until we get the good ones from our photographer.

All in all it was a lot of fun. The kids really seemed to enjoy themselves and it was fun challenging them on things to do in the play. We’ve had several kids tell us they want to do it again next year. But we’ll see. =) That was a lot of work. Sure it was worth it, but I need time to recover. ha ha.

Anyway..so until I get the better pictures, here’s the ones I had from practice.

We also had a camel that the wisemen pulled along behind them. There were so many props for each scene that the play just came alive. Once I get the pictures back I’ll be sure to post them. They’ll defiantly give you a better visual of the play.
