Homemade Ketchup

A few weeks ago, I decided to try something new. We had a ton of tomatoes from our garden and we’ve sauced them and made salsa with them. But I wanted to try my hand at making ketchup. I’ve always wanted to try it, but most of the recipes I found seemed like a long process. While grocery shopping a few weeks back, I found a Mrs. Wages Ketchup Seasoning Pack. I’ve used Mrs. Wages pickle seasoning pack/recipe to make pickles, so I thought I’d just pick this one up and see what happened. The recipe on the back seemed fairly simple, so one Saturday I gave it a go.

It turned out really good!! I ended up with 5 1/2 jars. The half jar got eaten by the end of the afternoon. The rest, I canned and stored away. The ketchup turned out a little sweet, so Trevor says the next time we make it we need to cut back on the sugar, but I thought it was good a little sweet. I’m not a big ketchup fan anyway, but I really enjoyed this.

Cooking up the ketchup.

Canned and ready to store until time to be eaten.

I think it’s safe to say that the kids enjoyed it. Wouldn’t you agree?
