This gardening year is going relatively well. There are a couple things I’m not happy with, but for the most part, I think we’ve upped the ante in our gardening gear this year.
We’ve got tomatoes romaine lettuce, cilantro, bell peppers, 2 types of cucumbers, zucchini, corn and peas. The corn probably wont make it past whatever animal is destroying it (grrr) and some animal (probably the same one) destroyed all but 1 sunflower. It doesn’t seem as if the animal is eating the corn….just…cutting it…and laying it flat. It’s just plain weird.
We’ve upped the ante by mulching more heavily than I ever have in the past, to help cut down on weeds. I need maybe another load. We also built a trellis for the peas to climb. This, while a bit of work, was kind of fun. I think it really makes us look like we know what we’re doing, even tho we probably don’t!!
The Bell Peppers I again started from seed, again probably not early enough. Bell peppers take INCREDIBLY long to grow. They are still quite small plants, but they are hardened and in the ground now. Next year I will endeavor to start them in December or January at the latest. This year they have survived quite a bit of hardship. Glorianna spilled the entire tray, another young girl picked a few of them. In the end, about 12 of them have survived and made it in the ground. This is out of 36 or so I think.
We also enjoyed fresh tomato sauce from last year’s tomatoes so much, that instead of 4 tomato plants like last year, we have 20. I bought the round wire things to help keep them up and happy as well.
Enjoy the pictures below. I’ll try to post some more recent past happenings soon!
