We started Latin as a family last week, thus beginning our first week of school….well kind of. We didn’t start everything else until this week. But it’s been good. It was nice to get a week of Latin behind us before beginning everything else. We are doing Latin in the evenings, as a family, with Trevor teaching it. That has been good. And it was a huge help to me not to have to teach that on top of everything else. It only takes about 15-20 mins a lesson so we are moving along nicely. If we cant squeeze it in after church on Wednesdays, then we double up on Thursday or Friday. So far it’s working nicely.
Glorianna is doing mostly Memoria Press, with the acceptation of Saxon Math and Apologia Science. It’s somewhatly family to me because Zion has being doing a little of it the last two years, but there are still some subjects they teach that I wasn’t familiar with that were a little challenging the first couple of days. But I’m getting it. I’m very thankful for the MP website/forums. This has been huge for answering questions.
The boys started Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW), together this year. I love the fact that the boys can do it together. I bought the highschool course so that Zion wouldn’t be behind, and if it ends up too much for Azariah (because it’s a little above his level) he can slow down. It seems to be very flexible. It comes with DVD’s of Andrew Pudewa teaching it. It also comes with DVDs of him teaching the teacher. So that’s what I spent the last few weeks of summer doing. Learning the program so I could understand it and help the boys. They are loving it so far. There is much laughter and chatter while watching the DVD. Andrew Pudewa is an excellent teacher. And he makes writing so much fun. Today Zion actually said, “Why didn’t we do this a long time ago?” I think this year’s writing will be fun to say the least.
Azariah is also doing Memoria Press, Positive Action Bible, Saxon Math and Apologia Science.
Zion has a very full plate this year. He’s doing Memoria Press for language, Saxon Math, and Apologia Chemistry. He’s reading “America: The Last Best Hope” for history and he’s reading “Foxe’s Book of Martyrs” for Bible.
So as you can see, we have a nice packed full school year. But it’ll be fun.
Glorianna’s Bible verse for the week. I thought it was very fitting.
Glorianna’s very first timed speed drill. In the past she hasn’t been timed on them.
And off we go…
