Deer!!

First deer of the season!! Good Job Trevor!! He shot this one with his crossbow.

Trevor decided to take me hunting in the same area he shot his buck. He had put up a ladder stand, which is where I sat, and he used his climber to tree up not too far from me. That way he could shoot something as well if something came along. He saw 4 deer but wasn’t able to get a shot at any of them.

Sitting in my treestand waiting for the deer to come along.

I had just finished reading a message that I had started last week, put my phone back in my pocket, looked up and saw a buck. It was a spike but he was good sized. I honestly didn’t even notice how big the rack was. I just saw the deer and was like “MEAT!!” I watched him for a bit before I was able to finally get a shot. But I’ve never hunted with cross bow before, so even tho I aimed at his spine, I shot under him. He fell over tho, before jumping up and running off, so at first I wasn’t sure if I had hit him or not. After about 45 minutes Trevor got down from his treestand to see if he could find any blood.

This was the tiny blood spot that we found. I must’ve grazed his belly. We found my arrow in the spot where the deer was, so at least I know I didn’t wound him or that he’s off dying somewhere. My yardage was aparently off. Trevor said from what he could tell, I was about 40 yards from the deer…which explains why I shot under him. But I sure thought he was a lot closer.

It was so much fun tho. I can’t wait to go again. The blood pumping…the heart pounding…lets just hope next time I don’t shake quite so bad. ha ha. It a wonder I was even able to shoot.

Trevor has been doing some hunting in Kentucky, too. He has gotten one deer in KY so far and the friend that he was hunting with got a doe and gave it to us. We are so very thankful. That now makes 3 deer in the freezer!! Woo hoo!!!
