Christmas Eve

To start off with….we are all doing much better. Right after the Christmas program we all got sick. It started off as colds and congestion, then went into coughs. The kids didn’t suffer to bad, but mine ended up going into Bronchitis. Yuck. It was awful. I was coughing so hard and running a low grade fever that I just felt awful. Then my back ended up tensing up so bad from the coughing that I could hardly move because of the pain. I had to spend about 2 nights in the recliner but still didn’t get much sleep. Trevor ended up catching it too but even tho his didn’t go into Bronchitis, he did end up with an ear infection. Ugg…what an awful time to be sick. Just as we were starting to feel better, Zion and Glorianna came down with fevers. But thankfully it only lasted 12 hours and after a good nights sleep they seemed to be back to normal.

Now on with the better news….

Christmas Eve was spent doing some baking. We started off with one of the recipes Trevor grew up with. His mom always used to make “Iceland Christmas Cake” (otherwise known as “prune cake”). He’s been wanting to make it for several years now and finally got around to it this year. It basically a seven layer cookie cake with prune filling.

Next up was the sugar cookies. We found these really cute cutters at the store but decided to do sugar cookies instead of gingerbread.

The kids had so much fun decorating them.

Later, the boys got creative and decided to make their own Nativity Scenes. Zion just made a manger but Azariah made his scene with Shepherds visiting.

We haven’t put up a tree for the last two years because we’ve been out of town the last two Christmases. This year we had no plans to go anywhere and Glorianna begged for the tree. My livingroom is kind of small and I really had no place to put it, so we decided to put it in front of the door. We rarely use the front door anyway and the tree is skinny enough that if we had to use the front door, we could still squeeze past it. It actually worked really good and this may very well become the new spot for any future trees.

Zion decided we needed and Angel for the top of the tree. The one we’ve had for the last few years had broken so I was planning on just leaving it empty at the top. But Zion got creative and now we have a new Angel for the top.

After supper we decided to let the kids open one present each. (Zion actually got to open two, but only because Azariah made him a present and really wanted Zion to open it.)

Azariah made “Perry the Platypus” all by himself. I drew out the pattern but he cut it out, sewed it and stuffed it. I had to show him how to attach some of the pieces but for the most part he did it alone. I think he did an awesome job.

Glorianna really was happy to get this new Bible Activity book, even tho it doesn’t look like it in the picture. Im not sure why she looks so unhappy.

Azariah loved his Lego Book. He did a little happy jig after opening it.

And yet another origami book for Zion. This kid just loves to make things out of paper.
