In Science, Zion has been learning about Force and Motion, the last couple of weeks. Experiments, paperwork and lots of reading. But he’s loving every bit of it.Â
In History or Language or whatever we are studying that has to do with a state, we have listed all of the 50 states on one map and then on a smaller map next to it, we list the name of the person we are learning about in the state that they lived it. That has been loads of fun. We also have a timeline going along with the people to, with dates and such. (I forgot to take a picture of that, but its hanging right next to the maps). The maps are dry erase so I’ll be able to use them over and over again.Â
Glorianna has been learning about the weather. A friend showed me a website with a free download for this weather chart and it has worked great for us. We have a weather song we sing in the mornings and then Glorianna goes outside and tells me what the weather is, so we can put it on our chart. As the weather gets colder, the choices will be changing, so she’ll have other squares to pick from. But for now, this is what we are working with. The weather song is really cute, so I’m gonna share it with you.Â
It’s in the tune to “Oh my darling Clementine”
What’s the weather?
What’s the weather?
What’s the weather like today?
Tell me (child’s name), What’s the weather?
What’s the weather like today?
Is it sunny?
Is it cloudy?
Is it windy out today?
Is it rainy?
Is it stormy?
Is it snowing out today?
(Then you repeat the first verse)
Glorianna loves it and loves being able to figure out the weather for herself.
We have just started on the seasons and will be learning the months of the year very soon. That should be interesting. =)Â
She has finished her “Creation Mural” and now has all 7 days labeled. She didn’t like leaving day 7 blank, so if you look closely, you should be able to see “God resting”.  We are leaving this up for the rest of the year, even tho it is now finished, so that she can still look back at it , when she can’t remember what day God created certain things. We really had fun with this. I’m no artist but she got the general idea and she colored it all buy herself.Â
Azariah loves his “video teacher”. He’s learning quite a lot and his reading has improved tremendously. I’m not sure if we’ll continue with video schooling next year or not, but for right now , this was a great decision.Â
This is all of the books Zion has read so far this year. Or at least the ones he was required to read for school. He’s read other books on his own, as well. He is my super reader.Â
It’s amazing to me just how much “schooling” you can pull out of these books. Moving Beyond the Page curriculum is just awesome! I’m definatly sticking with it for a few years.
