As you all know, COVID canceled a lot of stuff. Our big 20th anniversary trip was one of them. We celebrated our 20th in August with a smaller celebration as mentioned in an earlier post, but we still wanted to take a trip somewhere. With the borders of Canada still being closed we finally decided to just go with plan B: a trip to Texas. I had never been to see the Magnolia stuff at the Silos, so this would be our destination, along with a visit to San Antonio and Dallas. The kids were now old enough to leave home alone, so with a freezer full of food, a list of phone numbers on the fridge for emergency and a detailed instruction sheet on how to do laundry, we figured that the kids would do just fine.
Tuesday, April 13 – We got up and headed to the airport at 7:30 am only to find out after we go there that our flight had been delayed 4 hours. So they rebooked us and we headed back home to wait. 4 hours later we finally departed Louisville for Dallas, TX.
We got our rental car in Dallas, after waiting in line for 45 minutes, only to discover our car wouldn’t start. 30 mins later, after getting yet another car, we were finally on our way to San Antonio. This was going to be our first stop and then we would work our way back to Dallas over the next week. With all the delays, we finally ended up just grabbing fast food and got to our hotel about 8pm. The Omni is a great hotel. It’s beautiful and very comfortable. It’s right on the Riverwalk and very close to all the places we would be visiting while in San Antonio.
Wednesday, April 14 – We had breakfast at a fantastic little bakery called Panaderia. I had a pastry stuffed with ham and cheese. Trevor had one with sausage and jalapenos. It was the best pastry I’ve ever eaten.
Trevor also tried one of their breakfast “sandwiches”.
After breakfast we walked over to the Alamo.
In front of the “sculpture of friendship”
We also visited the wax museum.
The last part of the wax museum was about the “Passion of Christ”. It was really neat.
It was only an extra $4 to go to Ripley’s Believe It or Not, so we went in there as well. The first floor was nice but the rest was pretty weird and creepy, so we ended up just leaving before seeing all of it.
These butterflies had paintings on their wings. That’s pretty incredible.
We also took a boat ride around the Riverwalk area. This was cool. Our driver gave us a lot of history about the area.
We then headed back to the hotel to rest up a bit and get ready for our date night.
