Saturday Morning, we got up early and headed to Cades Cove, to bike the 11 mile loop. They close the road to cars on Wednesdays and Saturdays, until 10 am, giving the bikers a good chance to enjoy the road.
It was a bit foggy that morning, and I took the opportunity to take some great pictures of the fog over the mountains. The pictures just don’t do it justice, but the sight was beautiful.
Almost there. Headed to Cades Cove.
Once we arrived at Cades Cove, there were so many people there, it was nearly impossible to find a place to park. The parking lot and even the nearby lot for the picnic area, was packed full. We ended up having to park about a mile before the loop, and had to bike from there. That part wasn’t too bad tho. It was mostly downhill.

It started off very nice. It was a bit foggy still, and the sun was behind the clouds, so it made for a beautiful ride. But about a mile into the trip, it started to rain. It wasn’t too bad, at first. It was just misting a bit. But before too long, it was raining pretty good. By this point we figured we might as well just finish the loop, because we were gonna get soaked either way, so no since in going back. So on we go, up hills and down, in the rain. I was ok at first. But let me tell you, after about 5 miles, I thought I was going to die. Not only was the road very up and down, but I was now soaking wet. Even my shoes were wet all the way through. I did a lot of walking with my bike up several hills, but I finally made it to the end, and lived to tell about it.
We saw a lot of turkey. Some were running across the road in front of us, and others were making their way across the open fields.
One of the old cabins along the road. There were several of these. We could have stopped at each one and looked inside, but we really wanted to be dry again, so on we went.
Some of the awesome fog on the mountains.
I loved this tree. Its so big and just sitting out the middle of an open field, all by itself.
