Alabama Trip

This past weekend, we took a short but worthwhile trip to visit some friends in Alabama.  It was a great weekend full of fellowship, good food, games and kid entertainment.

We arrived on Friday evening.  The kids had a ball getting reacquainted and the adults just visited until we were too tired to stay awake any longer. (I guess I should point out that I was the first one to crash…along with Glorianna.  But then…I’m and early to bed kind of person. )

Saturday, after a tasty breakfast provided by our wonderful hosts, we headed off to the Space and Rocket Museum.  Lots of interesting things to see there and we even got to enjoy a “science show”.  I think the adults enjoyed this just as much as the kids.

After we left the Space and Rocket Musuem, we stopped at Five Guys for a very tasty lunch, then headed over to the “Early Works Children’s Museum”.  There was lots of really cool things for the kids to do here.

Azariah blows up the mine.  He was a bit worried about the rumbling sound followed by the smoke that came from the mine, but when he realized nothing was going to come crashing down on him, he was ok.

Zion, disguised as Davey Crockett, takes some of the local townfolk for a ride in his wagon.

My 3 little pioneers.

Glorianna’s favorite part of the museum was the small one room log cabin, complete with food, stove and cooking pots.  When she wasn’t cooking food and setting the table, she was across the street selling items to Trevor, in the general store.  She carried the ham around with her, everywhere she went, and was sometimes followed by Addy, who was carrying around a basket of bread.

Glorianna’s secret identity…a crazy outlaw woman on the run!!  Beware!!

(My pictures are out of order…sorry)  Here’s some more pictures of the Space and Rocket Museum.

Zion tries his luck at Rock climbing.  He almost made it to the top, but then was afraid he was going to fall, so he came back down.

Making “air” at the Science Show.

This is Trevor’s favorite plane.  It was so big, tho, I couldn’t get the whole thing in the picture.

Addy tries on some African masks at the Wonderworks Museum.

Addy and Tori have fun building a city out of blocks.

Joe, Anna and Anna May hang out and hope the kids tire out soon.

When we arrived back home, the kids played the rest of the evening, the adults played a game of Settlers of Catan, and then we enjoyed some more food, sent the kids off to bed, and had some great fellowship.

Sunday morning, Joe had Sunday School with the kids and then the adults enjoyed some more fellowship.

After some more wonderful food, for lunch, we packed up and said our good byes.

The ride home would have normally taken us 5 hours, but because of the nasty snow, wind and icy rain that we were privileged to drive home in, it took us 7 hours.  But we arrived home safe and sound, altho completely exhausted.

All in all it was a wonderful weekend, tho not quite long enough.
