Kitchen Remodel part 1

Right after we got back from our Missouri trip, we decided to start on the Kitchen remodel. We had been wanting to do this for a while but it was just a matter of finding the time to begin. We had bought the kit for redoing the cabinets a while back, so we decided to start there.

The boys were great at helping out. We took down all the cabinet doors and they scrubbed and cleaned them.

Here’s a few pics of “before”. Very outdated wooden cabinets with gold hardware.

The next step was to apply top coat. This was not going to be the final color but I do admit that I was a bit worried at how the final was going to turn out.

Next step was applying the decretive glaze. We chose to do a “dabbing” technic to give it more than just a plain painted look.

We also did the same with the outside parts of the cabinets.

Then we applied a protective coat and I spray painted all of the hardware. It’s now silver instead of ugly gold. And it was much cheaper than buying all new hardware.

The final result!

Excuse my messy counter top. We are still working on the bottom doors and drawers.

The drawers….glad to have those back.

We are almost totally done. Still have a couple more doors to finish. It’s been a slow process because we had to work around our soccer schedule and then the accident with Zion, but it’s getting there. Soccer is now over and Zion is improving more every day, so we hope to finish up this week.

The next part?? The backsplash, counter top, and painting. Not sure when that will take place but hopefully it wont be too long. We are also undecided on what exactly to do above the cabinets. But we’re tossing different ideas around.

I love the final result of my cabinets, tho. There’s a few areas that have more “character” than other places, but a lot of that comes from the grain of the wood. But overall they look so much better. It was worth the time and effort. And we saved a ton of money by doing it this way. I can’t wait to start phase 2!
