What is that? That is an X-ray of Zion’s mouth.
What happened? Soccer.
This past Friday and Saturday was our last weekend of soccer. The national homeschool soccer tournament in Evansville, IN. We were to spend two days there, play soccer, have fun and come home. We played two games on Friday and two games on Saturday. At the beginning of game four Zion (who is goalie for half the game) was diving for the ball to stop a goal from happening. He saved the ball. But he also got kicked in the mouth by the opposing team player who was trying to score. Ouch! So they removed him from the field and another goalie took his spot. The game continued on but Zion was done. The field medic suggested we take him to ER to be checked out. Zion’s lower four front teeth were pushed back quite a bit and he had a gash on the lower area under his mouth. The field medic said the only reason he wasn’t searching for Zion’s teeth in the dirt was because of his braces. The braces kept the teeth from flying out of his mouth. So off they go to ER. After doing an X-ray we discovered that Zion had a crack in his lower jaw. (Notice the line on the right side of his lower jaw) Double ouch! We had no idea. Zion said it didn’t hurt that bad. How he had a broken jaw and not be in a lot of pain is crazy to think about.
Skip forward a bit… we were able to get in touch with our dentist who called her recommended oral surgeon who wanted to see Zion as quickly as possible. The oral surgeon, Dr Cook, said the break wasn’t as bad as he was expecting so no surgery was nessessary. Thank the Lord. Our dentist, Dr Sarah, met us at Dr Cooks office and she was able to get Zion’s teeth straighten back up. He won’t loose those teeth, thank the Lord. And Zion did not end up needing stitches on the gash as we originally thought. Again, thank the Lord. Dr Cook did say that Zion would need his jaw wired shut tho so that the bone could heal. If the jaw keeps moving around it won’t heal properly. So between Dr Sarah and Dr Cook they got Zion all fixed up. He’s now on a liquid only diet for the next 6 weeks. He’s in very little pain tho so that’s also a blessing.
Overall he’s doing well. The hardest part for him is not being able to eat. So I’m going to be making a lot of milkshakes, smoothies and bone broth soup over the next 6 weeks.
We’d appreciate your prayers. This will be hard on all of us but the Lord’s in control. He’s already brought us through so much. This could have been so much worse than it actually turned out to be.
