This past weekend we made a trip to Atlanta for the yearly homeschool convention. We normally go to Cincinnati or Nashville because they are much closer, but with Trevor’s trip to Africa, neither of those worked out. At this convention the boys had the opportunity to participate in the “Academy of Arts” skit that they had for teens. They were doing a 20 minute play called “The Lions of Trondheim”. Zion played the part of Gierloff, a Norwegian during the time of the German invasion of Norway. He even worked hard to be able to speak with a Norwegian accent. Azariah originally only wanted to be behind the scenes doing lights and sounds, but they needed extra kids for walk-ons, so he was able to do both. They had a blast! This was much bigger than any homeschool program/drama/skit they’ve done before. They had about two weeks to memorize any speaking parts they were assigned and then they had a day and a half at the convention to rehearse. With that in mind I think that they pulled it off very, very well. It made the trip worth it. The convention itself was a bust. It was much smaller than we expected and the booths I wanted to visit the most weren’t even there. I don’t think we’ll be going back to this one. We will stick to the ones closer to home.
Here’s some pictures of the event. We have a video of the play too but not sure if we can get it posted. But we’ll try. It’s 20 minutes long so it might take a bit. Until then enjoy the pictures.

Trevor talked to the director after the play and let him know how much fun the boys had. The director, upon finding out which kids were ours, proceeded to tell Trevor how great our kids were. Then he said “Oh Azariah, what a great kid! I just had this connection with him and felt like I could really trust him. He was in charge of the final scene change. He had the responsibility to make sure everything was in the right spot and he just did it. I thought it was great because with as shy as he was he really stepped up and took the responsibility so well.” That’s enough to make a parent’s heart swell a bit.
I’m very proud of the boys. They did so well. And they had so much fun.
We were able to stay with our friends Bob and Monica B. while in Atlanta and that was fun too. It was nice to visit with them and have a place to relax when we weren’t at the convention.
