School has snuck up on me this year. It’s August already!!! Ugh! Where did the summer go? If I had been going by my usual school schedule, today would have been the 1st day of school. But….it’s not….I’m not ready yet. I still have a few more books to order and a few more things to organize. Last week I finally made myself set a start date and start the ball rolling on preparation. It’s moving along nicely. I’ve decided to start on Monday, August 18th. That’s 2 whole weeks later than I normally start, but it gets us past the allergy doctor apts, the dentist apts and Trevor and I’s anniversary. So I figured that was a good day to start and it gives me 2 whole weeks to get things ready.
So here’s a few pics of what I have done with the school room already. I still have a few more books to order and a few more things to organize but if we had to start this week, I think I could manage with what I have. =)
(because of Trevor’s adding our Instagram feed to the blog, you may have seen some of these pictures already…so forgive the repeats.)
I love charts! I don’t have a lot of wall space tho, so some of these get put onto the backs of doors. Thankfully the school room has a closet door and is also connected to the family room and laundry room, both of which have doors. So I make good use of them.
Here’s our school motto (The Bible Verse), the rules to live by (the 10 Commandments) and a Bible Time Line Chart
This is our Family Travel Map. Every time we visit a state, I mark it off. You may have seen this one in an older blog post, but it probably has more states marked off.
Dry erase maps are the best!! I bought several maps in bulk from Geography Matters, and they are all lamented, making them easy to use every year. We just hang up the map of the place we are studying and fill it in as we go.
Old looking copies of the Constitution and the Gettysburg Address
So that the kids can memorize the Church ages and their Messengers.
Glorianna’s Desk…with a magnet board on the wall so she can show off her artwork or A+ Spelling papers.
My side of the desk I share with Glorianna. I’d still like a few more jars or boxes for organization purposes, but so far this is working.
Azariah’s desk. He’ll be starting online schooling this year so he’s excited about getting to use the computer. It’s the same curriculum he used last year, but we are doing the online version instead of hard copy version because we already have all of the books he needs from when Zion did it, and all he needs to do online is read instructions and print of papers he needs. Much cheaper! I still need to give him some pencil holders and stuff for his corner, but that’ll be easy enough to throw together.
Zion’s desk. He’s switching curriculum this year so he won’t need the computer as much. He loves having the window, altho sometimes his love of photography becomes distracting for him and i have to close it. This is probably the cleanest his desk will be all year. He’s such a clutter bug. He finds ways to have stuff everywhere during school. I don’t know how he works that way.
My giant white board! I love this thing.
I’ll spare you pictures of all of my art supplies and such as I’m sure you are already bored. =) But as the school year is approaching and I’ve been really getting things organized, I’m starting to get excited about beginning. Trying a few new things this year, but I think it will go well.
The count down begins…
