Saturday, Aug. 31. Off to see more of DC after breakfast.
The Jefferson Memorial. Once again I was greatly impressed. This thing was huge.
Our next stop was the National Archives. This is where the Declaration of Independence, The Bill of Rights and several other important documents are on display. There were no photos allowed, but I totally understand why. Some of these documents are so old that the writing has faded to almost an unreadable state. But that aside, it was still very cool to see all of those documents.
The boys really wanted to see some of the museums in the area, so after seeing a couple more “War” Memorials (which I don’t have pictures of), we headed over to the Air and Space Museum. We spent several hours in this museum. There was so much to see. I personally found it rather boring after about an hour, but the kids always managed to find something else to look at. The museums in this area are free to the public. That’s a huge relief.
After leaving the Air and Space Museum, we headed over to the Natural History Museum. Zion really liked the Egyptian Display …
This Museum was also very crowded. In fact, there were so many people it was hard to see everything. We didn’t end up staying in this museum for very long. By the time we were ready to leave, we were all very tired. It has been another long day of walking around. We had already spent about 5 hours walking around and our feet really hurt. So we headed back to the van, drove around to some of the local sites that were easy to drive to, then headed back to the hotel. We spend the rest of the evening resting and being lazy.
There were several other museums to see, but we chose not to go. If the others were anywhere near as crowded as the two we visited, it wouldn’t be worth going anyway.
Sunday, Sept. 1. Our last and final day of vacation. We packed up and headed to breakfast, with plans to head home after that. But things changed a bit. Trevor and I had on our Still Waters T-shirts when we went to breakfast (in the hotel lobby), and it seemed the Lord had other plans for us. A young man approached us and mentioned our shirts. Then he said “Branham.org?” Of course this sparks Trevor’s interest. A fellow believer! What are the chances?? As it turned out, this brother works the night shift at the hotel where we were staying. He was just getting off of work when he noticed us walking into the lobby. So his curiosity got the better of him. He and Trevor talked for a bit and we found out that there was a Message church about 20 minutes from our hotel. After some discussion and some thinking, Trevor decided we should go to church. After all…this wasn’t even the original hotel we had planned on staying at…this was a last minute change. So the fact that we were at this hotel, this brother worked there, saw our shirts, found out we were Believers, and invited us to his church which was only about 20 mins away, was just too much for us NOT to go. So after breakfast, we headed back up to our room, changed into something presentable for church, packed up the van and headed to church. This made for a much longer day, but it was worth it. We enjoyed the Service and made some new friends.
We arrived back home at around 11:30 pm, tired and ready to crash.
It was a long 16 days. That’s the longest we’ve every been away from home. It was a fun vacation, but we are glad to be home.
