Well, believe it or not, it’s that time of year again. I don’t know where the summer has gone. But, ready or not, here’s comes the new school year.
This year is going to be a bit different…which I have found happens a lot. =) We are trying a hodge podge of stuff for Zion. Our normal “Moving Beyond the Page” didn’t haven’t the best choices of reading material for the 7th grade, and there were so many other options that we (mainly Trevor) wanted to try for Zion. Yes, Trevor does help with the decision making regarding school. Not just the supplying of funds for such. =) And I’m very thankful and glad he is as involved as he is. So this being said…here is what we’ve chosen for this years school.
Zion -7th Grade: Bible: “Positive Action” (outside of the usual YF quizzes and such that we do)
Math: Saxon (complete with a helper cd which I am EXTREMELY happy about)
Language: MBTP, Memoria Press
Geography/Soc.St: MBTP
Science: Apologia
Grammer: Saxon (which is on back order…not sure when it will come in. May only do this for half a year)
History: Memoria Press
We wanted to also include “Institute for Excellence in Writing” but can’t afford it right now…its crazy expensive. So maybe next year. And “Memoria Press Logic”. But decided he had enough work right now.
Azariah -5th Grade: Bible: “Positive Action” (outside of the usual YF quizzes and such that we do)
Math: Saxon
Spelling: “A Reason For” (we’ve used this for the last 2 years and really loved the way it teaches Spelling.)
And for Everything Else: MBTP
Glorianna – 2nd Grade: She’s doing Bob Jones for Everything. I’m so burnt out on Abeka that I had to try something new. Plus Glorianna is really tired of doing DVD’s. So I’m teaching her myself this year. This is a challenge because I now have 3 I am teaching full time, instead of 1 on DVDs, but I’m looking forward to it.
We also want to do Spanish Lessons every day after school, as well. So we’ll see how that goes.
Are you tired yet? =)
We started school this week, on Wednesday. It has gone well, so far, but it is still in the experimental as well. The kids are still trying to get the hang of things and we are trying to just the appropriate time frame for each subject so as not to spent till 5:00 doing school every day.
And on we go!!
