When we reached St. Augustine, we visited with Anthony and Amber. Two very nice people who were to be our hosts for 3 days. We spent 2 days sight seeing, and the rest of the time was spent fellowshipping with our hosts, and other local believers.
Our first stop on the sight seeing tour was “Fort Matanzas”. It’s a really old fort that you have to take a ferry out to. It’s not used any more, but has a lot of history. There was a guy out on the fort who told us all about it. The kids were able to do yet another Jr. Ranger program and recieve a badge for this fort.
After leaving the fort we stopped by a local Seafood place for some delicious lunch. The kids tried some seafood they had never tasted before: crab, scallops, oysters, and some they had eaten before like shrimp and fish. It was awesome.
When lunch was finished we headed over to the more “touristy” part of St. Augustine. There was another old fort which also offered a Jr. Ranger program, so we just had to stop.
“Castillo de San Marcos” is a big castle like fort. Its made entirely out of compressed seashells. There is a huge moat surrounding the Castle, but it’s dry. It was dry when the castle was in use, as well. The people used to hide their cattle and family members in the moat during a raid.
Here’s the kids inside the castle.
By the time we were done with both forts, we didnt have much time left before dark. We wanted to go on the trolley ride at dark that took us on a tour of the lite up city. So to kill some time, we took the kids to see a nearby lighthouse. You could go inside and climb to the top. I didn’t. I’d rather stay firmly on the ground. But Trevor and the kids climbed all the way to the top.

Us on the trolley. They gave us 3D glasses that made the lights look like snowflakes. This was really cool.
After the trolley ride, we headed back to Anthony and Amber’s house for the night. We would finish up our sight seeing tomorrow….
