This trip has been on my bucket list for years. I think it’s every little girls dream to visit Prince Edward Island. (At least if you’re an Anne of Green Gables fan.) I was so excited to finally be able to go.
Day One – August 22

Our first flight out was from Louisville, KY. to Charlotte, NC. It was a pretty easy flight, thankfully. We had a short layover and then boarded the next flight to Bangor, ME. When we were about 30 mins from our destination, we had to reroute because there was a small plane that had crashed on the runway, so we were not able to land. We circled for about 45 minutes before finally rerouting and landing in Portland, ME. As soon as the wheels touched down, we immediately took back off because apparently the wind shifted and it messed up the landing. We circled a couple more times and were finally able to land. We had to sit on the plane for about 30 mins so that the pilot could figure out if we were going to take back off soon or if we had to wait.
We had to wait.
So we all got off the plane and sat in the Portland airport for about an hour. We tried to rent a car and just drive the rest of the way, but the cars were all rented out. Finally, we reboarded the plane and headed to Bangor. Once we landed in Bangor and picked up our rental car, it was about 3.5 hours later than our initial time frame. It was going to be a long day. We still had a 6.5 hour drive ahead of us. It was about 4 a.m. when we finally arrived at our Air B & B. We had thought about stopping halfway and getting a hotel, but we got to talking and just decided to finish the trip out. We were so tired when we arrived, but the view after stepping out of the car was beyond words. The sky was like a planetarium. I’ve never seen stars so clear and the shooting star that I saw as soon as I looked up, made the tiredness all worth it.
Day Two – August 23
We tried to sleep in today, but the sun comes up really early on the island and my body clock wouldn’t let me sleep past 7. So with only about 3 hours sleep, we figured we’d see how much we could get done before we were too tired to go on.
Here’s some pictures of the cute little place we were staying. It’s a converted one room school house. It’s small but it has a full kitchen and it’s perfect for just two people. It’s so cute!

Or hosts left us some snacks and an anniversary card. That was so sweet of them.

We had breakfast at a cute little bakery that was close to our house. (I forgot to take a picture of the bakery) Then we headed out for some site seeing.

So many beautiful lighthouses.

Trevor went to the top of the lighthouse, but I stayed safely on the ground.

I could sit on the shore and watch the waves for hours. So beautiful!

We had lunch at the “Windows on the Water” Restaurant. I had the fish tacos. It was good but they were a little skimpy on the fish. Trevor had shrimp curry.

After lunch we went to the “Green Gables Heritage Museum”.

Behind the museum is Lucy Maud Montgomery’s childhood home. This was the place that inspired Green Gables and a lot of her descriptions in the book, come from this place. Here parents both died when she was a baby, so she was raised by her grandparents. This also inspired the characters of Matthew and Marilla.

After the museum and house tour, we picked up some groceries and a pizza for supper.
This pizza place is actually really good.

We headed back to our house for the rest of the evening. We watched part of the first Anne of Green Gables movie and then went to bed early.

Part Two coming soon….
