Our homeschool group likes to do something special for the kids at the end of each school year. Depending on how many actual graduates we have, depends on what kind of celebration we have. This year there was only 1 or 2. So their parents decided that they would just do something special for them, leaving the rest of us to plan something for our kids. This worked out fine. We decided on a “Park day” type of celebration with games and food and the handing out of awards. These kinds of celebrations always go over huge and the kids love them. Here’s the summary of our event, written by Trevor, for our homeschool website.
**A few notes for those of you who don’t know some of the inside jokes Trevor mentions in this summary… Trevor was the “guy conned into being in charge” of the event, therefore he sent out all of the emails and updates and info type stuff we all needed, filled with “Trevor humor”. He mentioned SEVERAL times about how much he liked fruit pizza, in hopes that someone or two or three would bring one or two or three. It backfired on him … there wasn’t one single fruit pizza there. ha ha. So because “Trevor humor” is so awesome, I’m including his summary on this blogpost. =) **
Trevor’s summary:
Despite the glaring lack of any fruit pizza, the fact that numerous homeschoolers could be found at PetSmart the following day buying goldfish supplies, and the gallons of toothpaste that were likely dispensed at everyone’s homes that evening – I’d say the Homeschool End of the Year celebration was a rousing success!!
The afternoon started with everyone gathering together setting up food and games. The first order of business was thanking our Heavenly Father for the school year and for the food. We then commenced with the eating of all kinds of food. (*cough* fruit pizza not there *cough*)
Of course, we can all learn from these kinds of instances. In this case we learn NOT to overplay something. EVERYONE will believe that everyone ELSE will be making a fruit pizza. Just a tidbit to teach your children about sales/marketing I guess! Another thought is… this is just one more reason to look forward to the Millennium! Before we even call, He will answer!
After eating, the children all gave their parents a rousing applause, complete with whoops and hollars. We then presented the awards to the children for their creativity, Bible memorization, Piano skills, and a host of other things. Smiling faces could be seen all around.
Then it was on to the games!! Whip cream pie throwing, football through a ring, ball toss to win real goldfish, and a Message/Bible trivia where you could possibly be “One in a Million†to win a special prize!! I must say, there was some really great ideas for games this year. Rounding out the activities were the pinatas and the huge inflatable bouncers and slide!! Bro and Sis Erickson provided cotton candy by the cavity! Much much fun was had by all.
I’m certain that EVERYONE was wore out by the end of the day. It was a great way to celebrate the end of the homeschooling year.
Thanks for coming out and making it a great event everyone!
(End of Trevor’s summary)
As you can see, it was indeed a blast. We left the Celebration the proud owners of TWO goldfish. One of them only lived 1 day. Not sure what happened, but it was belly up the morning of day 2. We now only have 1 fish in our “Brand new fishtank”. I have told the kids that if goldfish number 2 lives for at least a week, then we will buy him a new tank buddy. But for now he has to be a loner. So we’ll see what happens.
I forgot to take my camera, (cry…) but Trevor took a few pictures with his phone, so at least we have a few pictures of the event.
