Sunday morning began our first Chicago adventure. “The Museum of Science and Industry”. It took us an hour to get there from our hotel. YIKES!! I didn’t realize Chicago was so big. I kept referring to Chicago as a state all by itself. It sure seemed that way. Traffic is insane!! Why anyone would CHOOSE to live in Chicago is beyond me.
Anyway…..once we actaully arrived at the Museum, it was a sight to behold. We were able to get into the Museum for free, because of our Louisville Science Center Membership. SWEET!! This musuem is awesome! 4 floors of exciting things to see and interactive things for the kids. I think it would take a good 2 days to actually see everything. We only had until 4 tho because we had to be back to our hotel by 5 in order to make our next “reserved” destination by 5:30. (info on that in the next post)
The main reason Trevor wanted to visit this particular museum, was because of the section on the German U-Boat from WWII. Trevor has recently read a book about this boat, and how the Americans captured it, but held the capture a secret, so that the Germans wouldn’t know they had been captured. This helped the Americans to learn some of the German secerets by reading thru the books and charts they had on their U-Boat. Its rather an interresting story. So we spent a while on that floor and got the see the actual German U-Boat. Trevor and Azariah took a tour of the inside of the U-Boat, while I continued sight seeing with the other 2. There were so many things to see and do on this floor.
Other floors consisted of
–“Nature” and how the different types of Weather effect us
–An interactive water station where you can make your own types of weather
–A mini “Circus”
–A farm area where you can get inside of a tractor, milk a (fake) cow, see how corn is harvested, etc.
–A mini rock wall to climb
–Energy and Electricity
–Air Travel
And I can’t remember what else. I just know there was a lot of stuff to see. We spent 6 hrs there and didn’t even get to see everything. At 4:00 we headed back to our hotel so we could make our next destination on time.
The kids had an awsome time at this musuem and would love to go back sometime. As cool and awesome as the musuem was, I’m not so sure that braving Chicago again would be worth it. HA!
