Vacation–Day 3

South Dakota has some beautiful scenery and “tourist type” sights to see. So Friday we headed out to do some more sight seeing. Our first stop was Mt. Rushmore. We have never been here in the summer time, so it was quite a bit more crowded then the last time we were here, AND even tho it was summer, it was still a bit chilly. I was wishing I had brought my jacket. Zion was the only “smart” one who happened to grab his sweatshirt before heading out.

We had a grand ole time looking at the “Big Stone People” as Glorianna calls them. Being the homeschool mom that I am, this was also a bit “educational” and Trevor, being the fun guy that he is, this was also a “Movie moment” for us, too. The movie “National Treasure 2” was filmed partly, at Mt. Rushmore. So we had fun trying to find the spots in the movie, while we were there. There is also a lake in the movie that looks like it is right directly behind Mt. Rushmore. In reality, its a couple of miles away. Rather funny, but still cool to find. So after finding the said lake, Trevor and the kids climbed to the top of the rock for a spectecular view as well as to find the “movie spot” where they could “surrender their hand to the heart of the warrior”. (If you’ve never seen this movie, you wont get any of this, but if you have I’m sure you’ll have a nice chuckle.) So we have the kids on video “surrendering their hands”. Its rather funny.

I’m not sure how to upload videos to the blog, so hopefully Trevor will be able to show me. If he can, then all of my faithful viewers can enjoy them as well. =)

(I can’t add pictures right now, either…Trevor took them in “large” mode and needs to shrink them. So check back later to see pictures….that is if you are interrested. ha ha)

After leaving Mt. Rushmore, we drove through the “Needles” highway. Very cool. Lots of awesome looking rocks. We even saw a guys rock climbing on the side of the road. Now there’s something you dont see in our neck of the woods.

Stay tuned…more to come…
